Known as “the king of green-coloured gemstone”, emerald is the birthstone of May and represents the vibrancy of springtime. It is thought that emerald is highly favoured by Goddess Venus, thus it is associated with success and eternal love, safeguarding the honest and good memories of the wearer.

Compare with other gemstones, it is more difficult for emerald to form in the crust. It takes hundreds of years and adequate amount of changes in geological conditions to grow a desirable emerald crystal. Such formation process makes emeralds contain more or less covered with cracks and irregularly-shaped crystalline. Due to this unique characteristic, emerald enhancement is commonly accepted. The cracks are often filled with oil to render these gemstones in perfection. Almost all emeralds in general are subject to oil enhancement, except for a precious few that are so naturally perfect they are spared this treatment, making them highly exceptional.

This 2.83-carat emerald belongs to the precious few. Crème de la crème, this gemstone is completely natural and untreated. At the same time, its shade of rich and saturated verdant green is signature of the emeralds from Muzo, Colombia. Especially remarkable is the unusual Mariposa phenomenon that can be observed in this emerald — note the brilliancy and clarity of the stone, whose sheen is comparable to the softened reflection off of a piece of fine green velvet.

The fabulous emerald is encrusted by white brilliant-cut diamonds, whereas the rim of the piece is formed by eight emerald-cut diamonds and smaller round diamonds, perfectly complementing the brilliant 2.83-carat emerald at the heart of the piece to create a masterpiece at the height of elegance.
